Although seemingly contradictory, a translation should never look like a translation. One of our customers once said of a translation delivered by Taalbureau IJ: “No way, this hasn’t been translated; it’s just a Dutch text.” That’s the biggest compliment a translation agency could ever be given.
When translating, we communicated the ‘flavour’ of the text along with its aim – after all, a manual serves a different purpose to an advertisement. Words and sentences are used as tools to this end. Not the reverse.
Taalbureau IJ translates to and from all European languages, as well as non-European languages in consultation. We draw from an extensive network of experienced and specialised translators (often sworn); native speakers, who translate from a second language into their native tongue. For each assignment, a suitable translator is selected based on his or her area of specialisation and translation style.
